Snippets of Varanasi

Varanasi is a strange city where you can feel like a dweller and an alien at the same time. I was attracted like many others of this unique vibes of this famed , historical & vibrant yet mysterious city & tried to portray this in my way.

I still remember the first time I set foot in Varanasi, it was just another city. Traffic, crowd, brick and concrete structures, shops and chaos all obeying the same urban rule like the others. My heart was desiring to see something different, something which will calm down my soul. After dumping my bags in a small lodge near the ghats, I almost ran towards the ghats and from there everything changed. My perception, my vision, my thoughts, my mind . The sun was rising and the wind was splashing against my soul through my body, as if cleansing every pain an suffering of life.

A sadhu was chanting 'Gayatri Mantra' and I felt each and every sound vibrating throughout my body. Yes, this is what I was searching for when I first thought of visiting Varanasi.

In this journey I watched the different shades of the city from roads to lanes, from temple to ghats and each time my inner vision changed. This historical and one of the oldest city had so much diversity that visiting just once is not going to fulfill the desire of an photographer. So there is much more to come in the coming days and I plan to revisit the city very soon.
